There are a lot of terms used when it comes to football betting, let's take a look at the most common terms that you may come across.
Win/Draw/Win
This is used to describe the overall result of a football match. Other terms that mean the same thing are match betting and 1 x 2. You are betting on the three possible outcomes of the match. A home win, a draw or an away win. If you see it shown as 1 x 2, 1 = Home Team, X = Draw and 2 = Away Team.
Both Teams to Score (BTTS)
This is a common market that you will see on our Oddsmatcher.
For this selection, you would be looking for the Both Teams to Score markets at VBet and Smarkets. There are only 2 selections for this market, yes or no, so be sure to pick the correct lay option. Here we're looking for BTTS - Yes. On Smarkets go to the Both team to score market and click the odds in the blue box for yes. If the bet had said BTTS - No, then we would bet on no at both the bookies and the exchange instead.
Correct Score
The Correct Score Market is simply backing and laying the overall score of the match. Back and lay the same bet, just as you would any other bet, and then you have all outcomes covered.
Be aware of the halftime correct score market, as this would be for the result at halftime and not the entire match (fulltime).
Here's how a 0-1 Correct Score bet would look on Bet365 and on Smarkets. Note that this is for the away team to score 1 goal with the home team scoring no goals.

Over/Under Goals
You will often see Over/Under Goals market on the Oddsmatcher.
For this bet, you would be looking at the Under 3.5 goals market at Coral and then laying the same at Smarkets. This is how the lay market looks on Smarkets, you need to look for the Goals Over/Under market and then click the box with the number that refers to the bet you need to place. Here you would click the 3.5 box, as we're looking for Under 3.5 goals and click the odds in the blue box to add the lay bet to our bet slip.
If the bet was Over 3.5 goals on the Oddsmatcher, you find the over 3.5 goals market at the bookmaker and place a lay bet on Over 3.5 at the exchange.
Winner and BTTS OR Winner and Over/Under
Quite often there are bet builder offers that only need 2 legs. For these, you can usually use the Winner and Both Teams to Score or Winner and Over/Under goals market to lay the bet.
If the match was Man Utd vs Chelsea and you picked Man Utd to win and Both teams to score for your bet, you can lay it with this market.
If you picked Man Utd to win and Over 2.5 goals, or any other over/under goals market, you can lay it using the Winner and over market.
Halftime/Fulltime vs Win Both Halves
These markets will likely catch everyone out at least once. We know that on the face of it, they sound like the same markets, but sadly they aren't. There's a full guide about these bets here.
Asian Handicap
When going through certain markets, you may see things like Arsenal (-1.5) or Wolverhampton (+1.5) and these are often Handicap markets.
In Asian handicap betting, the bookmaker handicaps the teams or players by assigning them a goal or point advantage or disadvantage before the game starts. The handicap is presented in the form of fractions, such as -0.5, -1, -1.5, +0.5, +1, +1.5, etc., depending on the perceived difference between the teams. The half-point is included to eliminate the possibility of a tie, ensuring there is always a clear winner in the bet.
Using the example above and betting on Wolverhampton +1.5. Wolverhampton would start with a 1.5 goal lead. If they lost the match by 1 goal or better, that bet would win.
In-Play Betting
For a bet to be placed in-play we need to wait until that match has kicked off.
The odds can move quite rapidly when an event is in-play, so when placing in-play bets we recommend waiting until there is a break. In a football match, we would wait until halftime as the odds are much more stable and it allows us to get our bets placed much easier.
Our Oddsmatcher is unable to find in-play odds, so you have to manually find your bets when betting in-play. When you have found your selection, you need to use the standard calculator. If you enter your back stake, back odds and lay odds you will be shown what lay stake you need to use, the liability that is needed and also what your overall profit/loss will be.
